I have thusly returned from a remarkably exhausting Anime Boston, which consumed a three-day weekend of mine.
We stayed at the Midtown Hotel, which was two minutes walking distance away from the Hynes Convention center. It had no internet D: I thought we were going to stay in the Sheraton, which was attached to the Hynes, but Midtown was cheaper I guess. Cheaper but without internet.
So I'm going to tell you straight up that I really suck at photography. The photos that did come out well are blurry and and stuff, so I have no good photos of any of the major events.
The events were great, I thought. Lots of good skits in the Masquerade, though not as good as last year's.
Here you can somewhat make out Mario characters playing Mario songs on five (5) ukuleles:
Now this skit, which miraculously won no awards, consisted of ninjas playing a live-action tetris game before the audience:
REALLY wish I had better pics of that one.
"Anime Unscripted", previously known as "Who's Line is it Anime?", takes four English Anime voice actors and puts them on stage, performing improve in the style of Whose Line is it Anyway? It's a great event, saw it last year, and I think they've improved their improv skills since then. It's essentially an hours of the voice actors making fools of themselves, and they do it well.
As usual, the lines for events were looooong. Seen below is part of the line for registration. It was short in this picture because it was 8 in the morning.
Those fools were suffering because they weren't smart like me and they didn't preregister. My line was as long as me and my friends.
I can't remember, but this was probably the line for the Masquerade:
E-Pam, creator of the Mr. Dude Comics, got himself into the Name That Tune contest, trying out his skills of recognizing anime theme songs. Didn't do all too well, but it was bad luck more than anything else.
Kitty ears made him feel better:
As usual, the cosplayers were amazing.
(those two were rehearsing for their part in the masquerade, in the hall)
So when not made claustrophobic my the crowds, or when not totally exhausted, I really enjoyed myself. I printed a bunch of fliers for Concession and enslaved a friend to pass them out to strangers, so hopefully I got some exposure.
Thus with a small handful of goodies from the dealer's room...
...I returned home and promptly collapsed.
So there were a lot of furries there. Either there were more than last year, or I simply noticed them more this time around. Wish I still had my tail (I'll be buying one for FurFright this October.
The fight between ninjas and pirates became from evident this year, but was tinged with sadness, as it was clear how outnumbered the pirates are. Thus, E-Pam and I decided that next year, we will dress as pirates. Earlier than that, I plan to dress as one for FF.
I also have some loose dreams I might set into motion this summer. Three words: (the) Furry Pirate Coalition.
Anyways. Con report over. OVER I SAY.
EDIT: E-Pam ritualistically deflowered YouTube and found videos of many AB events. You can find them here, on the Concession forums.
